Understanding the RO Membrane in Home Water Purifiers
Water purifier RO membrane is also called reverse osmosis membrane, or reverse osmosis RO membrane. RO membrane is the core component of the water purifier inside the water purifier, which can also be said to be the most important component inside. Because of the RO membrane in the water purifier, it can be called a water purifier, and the filtered water can be drunk directly.
The origin and role of RO membrane
Reverse osmosis technology is a high-precision membrane separation technology. The water in ordinary life is infiltrated from fresh water to concentrated water, but the water purifier is not the same, it is to filter the polluted water cleanly and filter the polluted water into fresh water, that’s why it is called reverse osmosis.
Imagine a container, one side loaded with contaminated water, half loaded with clean water, spaced a membrane, now need to be contaminated water, to clean water filtration. Because the contaminated water, the concentration itself is higher than the clean water, this time, you need to add a pressure to the contaminated water, muddy water can become clean water. The accessory that increases the pressure inside the water purifier is called a pressure pump. Polluted water with pressure can be filtered to clean water. This process is called reverse osmosis. Although there are reverse osmosis membranes without pressure pumps, but overall, the desalination rate is not good. The effect is not as good as the one with a pressure pump, furthermore, the water purifier without a pressure pump also needs a certain pressure from the source water to work.
It is said that the invention of RO membrane or originated in NASA, because the astronauts need to use water, with the spacecraft with water and inconvenient, it invented the RO membrane, the used water repeated filtration, reuse.
RO membrane filtration precision is very high, reached 0.0001 micron, 800,000 times smaller than a hair. It is 200 times smaller than the tiniest virus. By adding pressure to the water, it is possible to separate out all the very small harmful substances inside the water. These harmful substances include viruses, bacteria, heavy metals, chlorine, chlorides and so on.
Water purifier water production have a certain temperature range, water purifier temperature are usually used in 5 ~ 35 degrees within the range of room temperature, the higher the temperature, the higher the amount of water production, the less waste water, but not higher than 45 degrees; the lower the temperature the smaller the amount of water production, the more waste water than more than 25 degrees below, the amount of water production began to decline, but not less than 5 degrees.
Water purifier RO membrane maximum working pressure can not exceed 1.5mpa, too high to beware of burst bottles, will lead to water leakage, if the burst bottles, no one at home at home, then inevitably is a house of water.
As a well-known supplier of water purifiers, Frizzlife produces a variety of products. Among them is the Frizzlife PX500-A Under Sink Tankless Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration System featuring an RO membrane (ASR313-500G) with an accuracy of 0.0001 microns, which eliminates more than 1,000 contaminants from water (99.99%), including fluoride, chlorine, chloramines, TDS, scale, and lead and other heavy metals. The pre-filter (ASR311) greatly extends the life of the RO membrane, while the post-alkaline filter (ASR313-A) remineralizes purified water. The Frizzlife PX500-A RO water purifier has a capacity of up to 500 gallons per day (GPD), compared to 50 GPD for conventional water purifiers, thus eliminating the need for a conventional water tank. It takes up 60% less counter space and eliminates secondary contamination caused by unvented water tanks. Direct water flow is available up to 0.35 GPM @ 60 psi. This system can also be connected to your refrigerator using the IMC-1 (B07R7NH55L) to provide you with crystal healthy ice.
Desalination Characteristics of RO Membrane
The desalination characteristics of RO membrane. Salt in the water purifier industry refers to a generic term for various solid ions in water, such as calcium carbonate, magnesium, aluminum and other ions that can form scale are called salts. Salts are not necessarily harmful substances, but may also be beneficial minerals.
RO membrane desalination rate is a measure of the quality of the RO membrane is an indicator, the better the quality of the RO membrane, the higher the rate of desalination, the longer the use of time. Of course, the desalination rate is also related to some other factors. For example, in the same working environment, the higher the pressure of the water purifier, the higher the desalination rate, the lower the tds value of the filtered water; of course, also has a relationship with the tds value of the source water, the lower the tds value of the source water, the smaller the value of the filtered water tds value is also smaller.
Desalination rate and PH value is also related, PH value in 6~8, that is, neutral water, desalination rate is the highest. And the temperature also has a relationship, the higher the temperature, the higher the desalination rate. In winter, the temperature drops, the desalination rate decreases, and the tds value becomes higher. Negative correlation with the back pressure on the pure water side, the higher the back pressure, the lower the desalination rate will be, and the TDS value of pure water will be higher.
RO membrane water throughput
RO membrane water throughput, RO membrane water throughput refers to how much pure water can be produced in a unit of time. The general home water purifier is in gallons as a unit. When you buy a water purifier, you often see what 75G water purifier, 100G water purifier, 400G water purifier, this G is the meaning of gallons.
A gallon is equal to 3.875 liters, 75G is a day of water production of about 280 liters of water. The home of the barrel of water is 18.9 liters, then a 75G water purifier day can probably make water about 15 barrels of water, the installation of a 75G water purifier for the average family or completely enough.
The impact of water production is of course also related to the working environment, the same environment, the greater the pressure, the higher the water production, some people in order to reduce wastewater, the wastewater solenoid valve dowel adjusted to tighten, increase the pressure inside the water purifier, more pure water, reduce wastewater, but the result of such an operation is that the RO membrane is not durable, it is recommended that we still set up in accordance with the standard good.
RO membrane water throughput and desalination rate is actually the same, in addition to the pressure, but also by the temperature, source water TDS value, PH value, pure water side of the back pressure. The way of influence is also similar.
Water purification to make pure water is more obvious for water purifiers with small water production, and if the flow rate of the water purifier is relatively large, such as a 400G water purifier, it is generally not felt. However, for the 50G water purifier, even the same one machine, due to the mineral water TD, temperature temperature difference, the difference is more obvious.
RO membrane preservation and use methods
RO membrane preservation, placed inside a dry box. Avoid high temperature and low temperature, the temperature can not exceed more than 45 degrees above, RO membrane also can not freeze, otherwise RO quality will cause serious damage. If the bag is ruptured, then it needs to be refilled with a protective solution to avoid the growth of bacteria inside.
Before use, you need to rinse the protective solution inside the RO membrane, the protective solution inside the RO membrane is 1% food-grade sodium bisulfite solution or sodium sulfite solution, short-term preservation of 1% sodium metabisulfite can inhibit microbial growth.
Usually save, do not be smart, add some other things in the protective solution, because the RO membrane is very fragile, add some other things can easily affect the quality of the RO membrane.
Unopened dry membrane as long as the storage conditions are good, can be stored for a long time; wet membrane shelf life of no more than 1 year. Has been opened, whether it is a dry film or wet film, even if you add a protective solution, the shelf life can not exceed 3 months.
