Copper Siberian Husky : Temperament And Training Guide

Cooper Siberian Husky is a rare color from the Siberian husky breed. This color gives an eye-catching appearance because of the copper or chocolate brown coat. This unique color attracts dog lovers. Copper husky is not as common as black Siberian husky, white husky and other colors.

Genetics

Brown (b) gene on the B locus  is the reason for the copper coat color of husky. It is a recessive gene that means both parents carry two copies of (bb) gene result as a copper color.

  • Black (B) is dominant over brown (b).

  • Dogs with BB or Bb will not display the copper color.

  • Only dogs with bb genotype will exhibit the copper coloration.

Appearance And Characteristics

Appearance and characteristics of copper Siberian Husky are as follows:

Weight: 40-55 pounds

Height: 20-23 inches tall

Coat Type: Double layer coat same as other huskies

Eyes color: Blue, brown, or bi-eyed (two different colors).

Coat color: Light copper color which gives a shade of cream like tone and also dark brown (Chocolate tone)

Nose color: Nose gives a shade of liver color.

Temperament Of Copper Siberian Husky

Copper Siberian huskies are not aggressive; they are friendly and energetic dogs. They are very social and easily adjust with families and kids with a low socialization. These huskies are intelligent and fast learners. Huskies have the ability to escape from anywhere very easily and quickly that’s why they are also famous as escape artists

Sometimes Copper Huskies show stubbornness which can be treatable. However, they make strong bonds with their owners and love to spend time with family members. They feel comfortable and relaxed in the family. 

Grooming Requirements For Copper Siberian Husky

As we mentioned earlier, Copper Huskies have a double-coat. Because of this they are heavy shedders especially during seasonal changes their shedding increases. To maintain their coat health, grooming is a very necessary part. Following are the key steps which helps a lot in grooming them:

  • Brush them minimum 2-4 times in a week.
  • Always use a slicker and soft brush.
  • To remove loose hairs use a deshedding tool or undercoat rake.
  • Give them after every 12 days.
  • Trim their nails when they are overgrown.
  • Inspect and clear their ears to prevent wax buildup and clean dirt.

Diet And Nutrition

Copper huskies are vibrant dogs. Well-maintained and healthy diet is very important for them. Diet is a compulsory need of every living being. When giving them, they must keep in mind that their diet should be high in protein and contain necessary healthy fats like Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids.

Other nutritional requirements are carbohydrates and fiber. These are the main sources of energy. Feed them 2-3 cups of food daily, but don’t overfeed them. Overfeeding is the main reason for obesity in huskies and other dogs. 

Training And Exercise Needs

Huskies are highly trainable dogs. Training and exercise increase their mental and physical stimulation. Training session includes a daily walk of minimum 1 hour. Give them a ball to play with it and also play fetching games. Puzzle games are one of the best options to enhance their mental health.

Recognition Of Copper Husky

Husky is a breed which is officially recognized by American kennel Club (AKC). And Copper Color is also recognized because it is a part of a breed not a separate breed. This is just a color variation in Siberian Huskies. Some other kennel clubs also recognized this color.
